FEMDialogue – Born Free & Equal in Dignity and Rights

Rwanda Women’s Network and Kvinna Till Kvinna are embarking on a feminism awareness initiative focusing on raising awareness and understanding of feminism in the African and more specifically Rwandan context.

The initiative will include informal public dialogues and will bring attention to day to day issues that affect women and girls and perpetuate negative social norms, gender inequality and discrimination.

Objectives of the FEMDialogue

  1. To create a platform to debunk and raise awareness on feminism in the African / Rwandan context and its principles.
  2. To create consciousness and promote debate on gender equity and equality as well as patriarchy as a discriminatory system that hurts all.
  3. To create consciousness and promote debate on gender equity and equality as well as patriarchy as a discriminatory system that hurts all.

In support of the annual international campaign “16 days of Activism against Gender based violence” which runs from the 25th November – 10th December (Human Rights Day), Rwanda Women’s Network convenes a dialogue with the theme: “Every girl decides: Girls Speak up on their own behalf”. The 2019 theme is based on the National theme for the 16 days of activism: “Turere Urwanda turwanya isambanwa ry’abana”. Rape is rooted in a complex set of patriarchal beliefs, power, and control that continue to create a social environment in which sexual violence is pervasive and normalized that perpetuate gender inequalities and one of the reasons highlighted as a hindrance to women empowerment.

The dialogue will feature panelists who will share on the current conversation around teenage pregnancies in Rwanda, Girl empowerment advocacy goals as well as get to hear testimonies of Girl Champions and Community girls.

The objectives of this dialogue are as follows:

  • Sharing of success stories under the RWN Kvinna till Kvinna Girl Champions Project in Rwanda
  • Address women and girls’ rights to their futures and paths
  • Promote and raise awareness around the important for girls to decide for themselves

Make it stand out.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
